Chester Engineers New Orleans Office Launches Internship Program

Two University of New Orleans Students Selected

New Orleans, April 2, 2010 ---- Chester Engineers, leading providers of clean water and environmental solutions, launched an internship program in its New Orleans office recently. The brainchild of Project Manager, GeAndra Davis, the program offers a real learning for real life experience. Zazenski "Zee" Garrison and Kerry Gipson, both University of New Orleans mechanical engineering seniors, began their internship last fall and will remain with Chester through May.

"Zee and Kerry are assisting me with the Louisiana Land Trust Project. We are fortunate to have these bright, talented, and professional interns who have truly stepped up and become integral to producing quality deliverables and representing Chester Engineers in the marketplace," GeAndra shares. She adds, "Their responsibilities include demolition permitting at New Orleans City Hall, database management, assisting with structural analyses, coordinating special projects with the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority, and preparing presentations for public hearings."

Both students address the practical benefits of their Chester experience, with Zee offering, "I will remember time spent with Chester Engineers throughout my career. The company has not only taught me how to face new challenges, but how to function within a professional atmosphere. I now know the true value of technical writing, deadlines, and accuracy of data thanks to my internship experience."

As Chester Engineers marks its centennial this year, the internship programs speaks for one of the company's priorities: mentoring and providing a learning environment for future engineers. "I will continue to use my links with local universities and membership in the National Society of Black Engineers, New Orleans Chapter, as major recruitment outlets," GeAndra offers. "Yet, what is most significant is the visionary leadership of our President & CEO, Robert Agbede. Whether through Chester Scholars, the company's $3 million endowment, or internships, Chester has its pulse on the needs of a changing world and the needs of future change agents, young engineers," she concludes.

With a staff of 300 engineers, scientists, and other professionals, Chester is the largest African-American-owned environmental engineering and engineering design firm in the United States. The company is Engineering-Firm-of-Record for the National Conference of Black Mayors Gulf Coast Region. Offices are throughout the country with operations in strategic international markets.
