On April 20, a Transocean drilling Rig Deep Water Horizon engaged on behalf of BP resulted in an oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico, about 52 miles southeast of Venice, Louisiana. The explosion has caused the rig to sink and oil to leak from the well head, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration estimates that oil could be pouring out of the ground at a rate of up to 5,000 barrels a day.
